Why LRE.TO Is In The Premium Portfolio Premium Only

If you take a look at the performance of Premium Portfolio 3 in the past month and a half, you may have noticed that it hasn't been doing so hot. Since August, Premium Portfolios 1 & 2 returned 5.9% and 4.3% respectively, whereas Portfolio 3 only returned 0.9%.

A large part of the reason is due to the performance of Long Run Exploration (LRE.TO). Since August, LRE.TO has fallen by a little more than 15%, while the TSX lost just close to 1%.

Up until a couple of years ago, I used to work as an analyst at a hedge fund. Although I analyzed different types of companies, I mainly focused on oil and gas exploration companies.

During my time, I came across many oil and gas companies that I felt were rather overvalued. I also felt that the overvaluation persisted because many investors misunderstood oil and gas companies. I believe that many of these investors will lose money on their investments.
